LED3 takes pride in every installation we have completed – in locations across the country. From corporate boardrooms to athletic arenas to government auditoriums, our experienced technicians work to ensure each display functions as promised. They treat every customer with the utmost respect and integrity. But every now and again we’re asked to help with a display that holds an extra special reverence. That is the case with our cooperation with EventWorks4D in Cleveland, Ohio. EventWorks provided the creative and technological design for a holographic theater, allowing viewers to interact with Holocaust survivors.

EventWorks turned to LED3 for our LED display expertise. Technical Manager Brian Barry specified a product he felt would stand up to the display requirements and help showcase these heartfelt videos.

LED3 Installations

We’re heading to Orlando with a new mobile LED option! This product offers customizing options – from platform or enclosed trailers to size & resolution options. If you’re looking for a mobile option, stop by Booth 327 for a closer look, or contact us – [email protected] – for details. Bruce and Kristen will greet you in the booth and give you a tour of this trailer. In addition, the manufacturer has additional options for mobile units.

InfoComm provides a great opportunity to see first hand the latest developments in this rapidly changing industry. If you haven’t attended, you might want to consider taking the time to going this year. In addition to the many classes and seminars offered, walking the exhibit floor and talking to manufacturers gives good insight into the future of the audio/visual industry.

Outdoor LED products have many impressive features. As far as rental outdoor products, RocketSign has a 2.6mm outdoor high resolution rental tile. Most manufacturers are moving towards a 3.9mm outdoor rental tile. As far as outdoor fixed installation products, the QS Tech Crius outdoor poster is unique product that is slim and bright and can be put in advertising or green spaces without taking up too much space. We also carry the outdoor mobile LED trailer display that provides a 16:9 image on a mobile trailer that can be set up in about 45 minutes in most level areas and reach a height of about 20’ from the ground. Standard outdoor billboards are starting to make their change from DIP to SMD LED. DIP is still vastly brighter and more efficient, although the costs are starting to become in line with each other. Most commonly recommended outdoor rental sixes is still 5mm-7mm and for billboard 10mm-16mm.

When talking about outdoor, the advantage with these screens is the overall brightness in relationship to daylight and the sun, also the ability to handle many weather conditions. Disadvantages include the amount of time to repair. Benefits are use in all weather and elements. Challenges in a fixed install is mounting in a way of protecting from wind loads, and getting the proper amount of power and data signal to a remote area. Overall Brightness and ingress protection rating is a really important feature of outdoor displays.

Outdoor displays can also be used in all-weather climates. We have installed outdoor products from the warmest weather in Phoenix to the coldest weather in Ohio.  They are made to handle rain, snow, wind, heat, cold. Over time, the sun does eventually dull the shaders to give an appearance that the modules do not match in color from the UV degradation.

We have had clients that would use outdoor rental panels include fairs, festivals, outdoor concerts, races, basically a remote non-permanent event where image magnification is necessary or to display an artists’ content for an outdoor concert. Permanent installations, such as billboards, are used for advertising and marketing car sales, upcoming events, time and weather information.

Every show we have done has been successful! From providing screens for tailgating on college campuses to some of the largest acts out there, LED3 is your one stop provider for outdoor rentals.  Through LED3 and our partners, we have provided resources for event such as the Super bowl, Pro Bowl, concerts for artists such as Kiss, Macklemore, Zedd, and hundreds of various other events.

A client will add a screen to their event or show if they need image magnification for an event where the crowd is too far away to see the main stage/speaker, otherwise known as a delay screen.

There are always challenges to outdoor screens, namely level ground and worrying and about weight loads and wind loads.  Trying to keep non weather proof components like power distribution systems, video processors, and computers weather safe.

When it comes to repairing these screens, realistically, none are easier to repair as opposed to indoor screens.  Most are not easy to access and require a great deal of removal.  Once the component is removed, it is usually protected with a sort of silicone which needs to be removed before the component can be replaced and then silicone re-applied. This process usually takes 2 days to fix allowing to cure properly from start to finish, where as an indoor repair could take only 10 minutes.

In the LED screen world, there are more than just flat screens that create a beautiful, flawless picture. Today’s technology has allowed for many different kinds of specialty screens to be designed, creating a wide range of creative options for all applications. Such options include the CreateLED MagicBox, concave and convex capable panels, Blow-Through screens, and even interactive dance floor screens.

When talking about what makes an LED screen a specialty screen, it all has to do with the unique features that the product offers that no other product has been able to do before; a new shape, pixel pitch or its ability to be implemented in a brand new way. Outside of the standard flat panel that everyone and their brother are accustomed to seeing, almost every manufacturer has an LED tile that can curve either with built-in features, or by adding wedges to each panel to acquire a degree of curve anywhere from plus or minus 5 degrees to 15 degrees. The curve of the panel is so extraordinary because it takes the image to a whole other level that may create more movement in the picture making it more attractive. The curve is so much more than just even creating a circle or wave pattern with the panels. The effect that the curve gives is almost 3D like and engages the audience. This allows a set designer much more freedom with creativity to wow the audience.  Some manufacturers have even been able to create panels that can curve up to 45 degrees per panel. Many companies implement a curved design just for the difference factor in order to stand out, but they do have to pay for it. In many cases, the curved feature alone can raise the price of the panels drastically due to a lot of the installation factors. When installing a curve-able screen, they are not difficult to set up, but you have to incorporate curved truss to fly the display matching the degree of the LED screens. Curved screens are typically used in rentals, however they could be used in a fixed installation based on what the end user desires.  For example, if they have a curved wall in a boardroom, an LED display can be installed to match that curve.

The CreateLED MagicBox is a very remarkable product because it can create a 3 dimensional video display that is like no other. It has the ability to allow multiple cubes to be assembled to create a video image on all of its sides. In many cases, it is not a product that is typically

rented. The availability and cost usually prohibits it being used in a rental environment because it would be extremely costly if damaged. Overall, the MagicBox is a very complicated installation. Everything from the wiring, module placement, programming and content creation takes very detail-oriented individuals. Imagine you were trying to create the outer design packaging for a new product, but all of the packages had to create an image when you set them on top of each other. The content has to be made in 2D and unfolded like a box. MagicBox would be used more for a fixed or permanent installation, such as a theater production. However, we have used it in many other applications such as being featured in a television show that ran only a few weeks.

The Blow-Through screens are transparent in nature to allow wind and air to pass through the screen but never disturbing the image. This feature is so significant not only to prevent damage at windy, outdoor shows, but also allow natural light to pass through to enter a store or office space. The Blow-Through screens are critical for those outside shows in particular where you expect strong winds to pass through.  The transparency helps to diminish any sway or damage to the panels themselves or surrounding equipment, vehicles or buildings. Although, these screens carry standard LED for use in large scale outdoor stadium shows. When building with Blow-Through screens, it is the same as building a straight wall only the LED is transparent. Blow-Through screens are also mostly used in rentals, however, they could be fixed installed based on what the customer is trying to create and the space they are going to be implementing the screen to.

One of the most popular recent requests is for the interactive dance floor. While the floor itself is easy enough to build and install, it’s the content and driver that adds cost to any project for the interaction.  However, dance floors are still available without the interactivity, displaying pre-built content like any other upright screen. Don’t forget about your runways either.  An LED floor can add excitement to runway shows.

There are many different events that these specialty products can be incorporated into other than being solely used for a permanent installation. Many specialty products are not for rental use when new, but then later on adapted to permanent install in creative applications. The MagicBox is not readily available enough to be used in any applications at this point.  It could be used for corporate trade show environments and television productions.  Content has to be created in such a unique way for these specialty screens that it inhibits its use for everyday applications.  Curved screens are good for ballrooms and arenas where the audience is seated in more of a circle as opposed to just straight on, to maximize a trade show booth floor or just to get creative on set.  Blow-through is perfect for outdoor events such as concerts and large fairgrounds or outdoor signage.

A really big part of LED3 is our rental division. Our rental manager, Kristen Stuhlmann, is the person that will handle your rental from the very first phone call to quoting, logistics and support. She will help you pick out the best products that we offer from hi-res 2mm to curved and blow-through panels for flown and ground supported displays to turnkey solutions to sub rentals. Along with great products, we also have excellent LED technical experience and service with 24/7 phone support for your convenience.

With a background in videography and editing, Kristen’s experience with video content also lends support in helping our clients’ pick and choose the best product for their application making sure their content is displayed to its maximum potential.  Our number one concern is client satisfaction, so we bring quality products and the highest standard of service to every job.  Our focus is to make you look good while handling all the necessary work.

LED3 rents out everything from mobile units to indoor 3mm and outdoor 7mm panels. Mobile LED, trailer-based displays, are great for outdoor events where you need to reach a large crowd with visual impact.  They are also great for smaller settings where the footprint may be a concern.  Only taking an average of 40 mins to set up, these units are great for those events where you have limited load-in times.  They are self-contained with an on-board generator and control room and can also be connected to shore power.  Clients can also save on labor costs, since the units only take one technician for set up and operation.  Our mobile units have traveled the US, displaying all types of content from NASCAR races to Super Bowls to backyard BBQs.  Great ideas for use: Movie night, football games, video game competition, concerts, corporate outings, grand openings and more.

Our indoor 3mm LED is very popular with our rental Clients because it works well within many applications.  With an optimum minimum viewing distance of just 12’-15’, the 3mm LED produces a beautiful picture and works well with presentations using text.  Corporate meetings, concerts, award shows and trade show exhibit booths are just a few applications where our 3mm really shines.  At 500x500mm, the LED panels can be configured to almost any requested size display with the ability to be ground supported or flown from rigging.

Our next popular rental product is our 7mm LED.  Available for both indoor and outdoor applications, the 7mm is a great-looking, budget conscious product.  At an optimum minimum viewing distance of 20’-25’, our 7mm works very well at outdoor concerts, sporting events, rodeos, large meetings, public presentations, award shows and more.  With the ability to be ground supported or flown, the 7mm is a rugged and hardy rental product.

LED3 products can be rented for any length of time.  From a 2 hour meeting or event to a 6 month tour, we’d be happy to assist in all planning and implementation of a LED display.  Our focus is to provide our Clients with the best product(s) and service available from beginning to end.

When Kristen is first approached about a rental, she looks for answers to the following questions: What is the space like where your function will be held? Is the area conducive to ground supporting or is it better to fly a display?  How far away is your audience?  What message do you want to tell?  How can I maximize the LED display for extra excitement and audience participation?

In the old days, when LCD projection was the only option, mid-day outdoor events were a no-go for any type of video display support.  Fighting the sunlight is the first obstacle to producing a vivid, amazing picture.  Now, with the option of LED, you can provide your audience with an exciting experience no matter what time of day it is.  At 5000+ nits and improved shaders, the LED panels stand up to the sun and allow your content to shine through.  This goes for indoor shows as well.  From the quality of the picture to the spectacular color, the vibrancy of an LED display will set your event/show apart from others.
